Samantha Harris reveals breast cancer diagnosis, will undergo double mastectomy

Former Dancing with the Stars co-host, Samantha Harris, has revealed she’s undergoing surgery for a double mastectomy. The 40-year-old mother of two made the announcement on Wednesday.

Harris told Entertainment Tonight she went for a routine mammogram last year and the results came back negative but after detecting a lump during a self-examination, she saw a specialist and found out she had breast cancer.

"I was sick of feeling the way that I did in the days after the diagnosis. I knew I needed to take control,” she explained. Harris also said of her decision to go with a double mastectomy rather than a lumpectomy with radiation, "I felt so much calmer."

People reports she also said of knowing something was wrong, "It felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest.”

Harris knows this decision is the best for her family, saying "My daughters are three and six [years old.] All they're concerned about is to have mommy active, [to] be able to hold them, hug them, kiss them, be there, be present for everything.”
