A public relations nightmare is probably an understatement. The social media campaign “#myNYPD” has turned into one of the worst ideas…ever. The New York Police Department tweeted on Tuesday asking if they had a photo with a member of the NYPD, and to use the hashtag, where the best would be posted on their Facebook page. There are much fewer photos of people smiling and taking selfies with New York’s finest than anticipated, resulting in the hashtag being used to show photos of police violence and brutality.
We take a look at the Top 10 #myNYPD photos, which unfortunately are smeared with negativity and have caused outrage, but also the harsher photos, not surprisingly, have popped up from accounts owned run by protesting groups such as Occupy Wall Street. Smartly, the New York Police Department have pretty much gone dark, not saying a word about the photos and news articles that have been posted. Probably the smartest thing they have done in the last 24 hours.
