By Chelsea Lewis ,

ABC has renewed the Marvel spin-off TV show Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and has ordered a new series titled Agent Carter to go straight to series.

Marvel released a statement explaining that their comic book universe would be extending with a second season of S.H.I.E.L.D., which will continue to star Clark Gregg as the fan favorite, Agent Coulson.

Marvel encouraged fans to stay tuned through social media for the latest regarding the new season of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter.

S.H.I.E.L.D. saw an increase in ratings following a story-line that featured a tie in to the box office success Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Agent Carter will tell the story of Peggy Carter, who was featured in Captain America: The First Avenger and is the founder of the organization S.H.I.E.L.D. British actress Hayley Atwell will be reprising her role as Carter.

Agent Carter is being explained as a prequel show and has been ordered to go right into production on the full series, Deadline reported. This show is being seen as a possible bridge between the fall and spring portions of S.H.I.E.L.D.
