ABC 'Rising Star' team announced: Kesha, Ludacris and Josh Groban join new singing competition

By Daniel S Levine,

ABC has announced the celebrity team advising singers in its new competition, Rising Star. The show takes a new spin on the singing competition, since it includes live online voting during each episode.

Singer Josh Groban has been hired to host the show, although there will probably be chances for him to sing as well. According to Entertainment Weekly, the experts will include “Timber” singer Kesha and rapper Ludacris. The network previously announced that country singer Brad Paisley will also participate.

ABC announced the new show in January during the Television Critics Association Press Tour. It is the network’s latest attempt to start its own singing show, after failures like Duets.

This new show is based on an Israeli program, which uses an app that viewers use to vote for their favorite singers. The celebrity experts aren’t there to judge them, as viewers have their own instant verdicts.

ABC will use the 2014 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday to promote the show, as all members of the team will appear together. Ludacris is hosting that ceremony.

Rising Star starts on Sunday, June 22.
