Alex Gibney will be the main honoree at the AFI Docs Charles Guggenheim during the American Film Institute’s 12th edition.
Variety reported that the event will be taking place on June 18 through the 22nd in both D.C. and Silver Spring, Md.
AFI released a press release regarding the honor that Gibney would be receiving and why he was selected as the main honoree. The award is presented to "masters of the non-fiction art form who inspire audiences by documenting and exploring the human experience."
Along with Gibney being honored there will be a symposium June 20 at the National Archives that will feature a showing of his work and a Q&A that will be held with Gibney.
The famous filmmaker is known for his work on Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Client 9: The Rise & Fall of Eliot Spitzer and the very well known We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks which was released back in 2013, The LA Times reported.
Gibeny also earned an Oscar for Taxi to the Dark Side, which came out back in 2007.
