California fire chief accused of murdering girlfriend he met through escort service, still on the run

By Daniel S Levine,

Orville ‘Moe’ Fleming, a California Fire Battalion Chief, has been accused of murdering his 26-year-old girlfriend. Police have begun a statewide manhunt for Fleming and believe he may be hiding in the mountains. It’s also possible that he could be out of state.

Fleming allegedly brutally murdered Sarah Jane Douglas. Police believe that the two met through an online escort service MyRedBook.com. According to CBS Sacramento, they are investigating the possibility that someone else Fleming knew through the site may have helped him flee.

CBS News reports that fleming was fired last Thursday by Cal Fire for not reporting or calling in for five days, Daniel Berlant, a spokesman for the agency said. Berlant added that the firing was immediate and not because of the alleged murder.

Sacramento County sheriff's Sgt. Lisa Bowman said that Fleming frequently went to Sierra Mountains, Santa Cruz Mountains and the Yosemite Valley. However, police have said that they have received tips as far away from Oregon because of the wide attention the case has received.

KFSN in Fresno reports that Meagan Fleming, Fleming’s estranged wife, told KXTV in Sacramento that she received texts from Fleming before and after the alleged murder of Douglas.

“He was saying 'I want my family back. Come get me, come pick me up, please, please, please,'” Meagan Fleming told KXTV. “"I said, 'No. Absolutely not.'" She said that the last text she received read, “you should have came and picked me up.”

It’s not known what car Fleming fled in. However, his Cal Fire truck was found Thursday in Elk Grove.
