Cate Blanchett will narrate Voyage of Time, director Terrence Malick’s long-gestating documentary on life, death and the universe, with Brad Pitt.
The news on the latest project from the Tree of Life director was buried in Screen Daily’s latest report from Cannes on the activity of Wild Bunch, one of the busiest sales companies at the festival. (This is the same company hoping to make a Spring Breakers sequel.)
According to that report, Wild Bunch is showing five minutes of the film to potential buyers. “It’s the history of humanity from the Big Bang until to today,” Wild Bunch co-chief Vincent Maraval told Screen Daily about the film.
Pitt, who starred in and co-produced Tree of Life, is still involved, but Emma Thompson is out. Indiewire reports that the Saving Mr. Banks star recently did some narration, but wasn’t mentioned today. Since Malick has a habit of cutting stars out of his movies, that’s not entirely a shock.
Voyage of Time is now set for release in 2016, with a 40-minute IMAX cut and a longer theatrical cut in the works.
Blanchett’s involvement on the film may mean that the Oscar winner will make it to the final cut of Knight of Cups, which could be out this year. That movie also stars Natalie Portman and Christian Bale. Portman and Bale also star in an untitled film that Malick also shot.
