CBS orders 'How I Met Your Mother' spinoff 'How I Met Your Dad' for series, stars Greta Gerwig

By Daniel S Levine,

In an unsurprising move, CBS has picked up How I Met Your Dad to go to series. The How I Met Your Mother spinoff stars Greta Gerwig as Sally.

TV By The Numbers confirmed the news for the pilot, which has drawn plenty of attention. The main question is will viewers tune in after the mixed reaction that the How I Met Your Mother finale got. Gerwig has promised that the show will be very different because the story is told from a female perspective. Still, HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are writing, along with Emily Spivey (Up All Night).

It also has a very different jumping off point. The series starts with Sally getting a divorce and then starting her search for The One and the father of her children. Meg Ryan has also been picked to narrate the show, although she will not appear in it (like what Bob Saget did for HIMYM).

Gerwig’s co-stars include Nick D’Agosto, Drew Tarver and Anders Holm. Deadline reported back in March that Tiya Sircar will play the role once held by Krysta Rodriguez.

Deadline and THR are now saying that the show has not officially been picked up at the moment. Unlike the other networks, CBS is trying to hold back all announcements until its upfront presentation next week.
