CBS Television Distribution announced on Friday that there will not be a second season of the syndicated talk program, The Arsenio Hall Show.
In a statement, CBSTVD said that the show was unable to sufficiently improve "its audience enough to continue" over its first season. "Arsenio is a tremendous talent and we'd like to thank him for all the hard work and energy he put into the show," the statement added, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Hall said that he was glad of the opportunity to try and return to TV and knew going into the project that it "would be a challenge." He added, "I'd like to thank everyone on my staff for rallying around me and striving to make the best show possible every night."
The cancellation comes as a complete surprise considering CBSTVD previously renewed The Arsenio Hall Show for a second season back in February. Hall said after the news: "Producing and hosting my late-night talk show brings me great joy. I'm back where I belong."
CBSTVD has said at the time that Hall's program boasted the youngest overall audience for a late-night talk show.
THR notes that the ratings were never all that hot for the show once it got settled in. After being on the air for a couple months, the ratings dipped 60 percent after premiering to a 1.0 in the advertiser-important 18-49 demographic.
