Former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way announces solo album, website

By Andrew Wilson,

Gerard Way, former My Chemical Romance frontman, created a new website promoting not just his music, but as a medium for fans to see his other efforts, including drawings, comics, and images.

According to Alternative Press, Way wrote a statement on the new website and gave fans a small snippet of new music as well. In the statement, he mentions that he is working on both “big and small projects” and has signed a record deal with Warner Bros. for his upcoming solo album.

Formed in 2001 by brothers Gerard and Mikey Way, My Chemical Romance's 12-year career was highlighted in 2006 with the release of their critically acclaimed concept album The Black Parade, solidifying their place in the alternative genre. With a successful follow up in 2010, the band announced their split in 2013.

In a recent interview with Kerrang (via NME), Mikey Way compared the breakup to a passing of a family member. He said, "But over time I got great joy and pleasure from reflecting. I was able to truly put on some songs and be like, 'Wow, we really did something. We cracked the heavens.'”

Way’s new album is scheduled for release sometime next year.
