'Godzilla' brings in 9.3 million from Thursday night showings

Godzilla is already impressing at the box office. The monster thriller has already made 9.3 million from late night showings on Thursday night.

Variety reported that the film has now expanded into 4,000 domestic locations since its Thursday showings. The film has already opened in North America and it will be opening in over 60 international markets this weekend, as well.

Out of the $9.3 million that the film made, $2.1 million was from IMAX showings. This late night debut ranks amongst the 20 biggest debuts for late showings. Godzilla comes in right with in line with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

MTV added that reviews for the film have been favorable for the most part. Some reviews are calling this "the king of monster movies."

Director Gareth Edwards has said in many interviews that this goal with the project was to remain true to the iconic Japanese Godzilla movies made by Japan's Toho studio.

Godzilla stars Ken Watanabe, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
