Golden State Warriors fire Mark Jackson (Reports)

By Kyle Johnson,

The Golden State Warriors reportedly fired head coach Mark Jackson on Tuesday, just a few days after the team lost in the first round of the playoffs.

USA Today reports they spoke with a source familiar with the situation, though nothing has been confirmed by the team.

The news, if it's true, isn't all that surprising since there were murmurs throughout the season that the team would part ways with Jackson if the team didn't do well in the playoffs, despite the Warriors managing their best regular season record of 51-31 in over 12 years. He is also only the third coach to reach the 50-win mark with the Warriors.

"Mark Jackson has had a big impact on the improvement of our team and the success that we've had over the last couple of years," owner and CEO Joe Lacob has said. "Nonetheless, we must make some difficult decisions in our day-to-day operations."

Players, including team leaders Stephen Curry and David Lee, made it clear after their first-round elimination that they wanted Jackson to return, reports The Associated Press. Despite player endorsement, Jackson seemed at odds with team management, who preferred to pick up his contract option instead of negotiate a new contract ahead of the season.
