Warner Bros. announced on Tuesday that the studio set a release date for the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The first film in the planned trilogy is scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 18, 2016, reports Entertainment Weekly. Fantastic Beasts is based off a short guidebook 'written' by Newt Scamander that J.K. Rowling put out while still working on the Harry Potter series.
Work on the film is still in early days yet as Rowling is currently writing the script and a Fantastic Beasts film was only announced last September.
Warner Bros. has also not tapped a director to helm the film or even put a cast together. No producers are on board yet either, according to Variety.
Warner Bros. head Kevin Tsujihara managed to convince Rowling to do a new story set in the Harry Potter universe. The story starts out 70 years before Potter, but isn't a prequel to his tale.
It's not a surprise that the studio is keen on continuing in the same universe as Rowling's beloved wizard series since the eight Harry Potter films have earned $7.7 billion worldwide.
