An inmate, with less than a week left to go before completing his prison sentence in Portland, Oregon was captured after he escaped.
According to KGW, Matthew Joseph Medlin scaled a prison fence to escape the Columbia River Correctional on Wednesday afternoon, less than a week before his release date.
KOIN noted that the 30-year-old already served 272 days for charges of sex abuse, assault and burglary and was scheduled to be released on May 6. Apparently, he did not want to spend the last few days in jail though.
An officer spotted the convicted sex offender hours after he fled at a Jack in the Box fast food restaurant a few miles away from the prison.
Police swarmed the area and were able to apprehend Medlin.
Authorities said he was treated by medical personnel for cuts and lacerations to his hands, which he sustained during his escape.
The mistake of actually escaping instead of just sitting it out the last few days of his sentence will keep him behind bars even longer.
