John Krasinski will direct and star in the film The Hollars.

Deadline reported that Anna Kendrick, Richard Jenkins and Margo Martindale will appear in the film. James C. Strouse wrote the script while Tom Rice and Ben Nearn are on board as producers.

The plot revolves around John Hollar (Krasinski), who travels with his girlfriend (Kendrick) back to his hometown in Middle America prior to his mother’s (Martindale) brain surgery. Hijinks ensue when Hollar’s family, high school friends and ex-girlfriend re-enter his life.

According to Collider, script writer James C. Strouse noted the film is being pitched as a “blend of Steel Magnolias and Garden State.”

This will be the second film Krasinski has directed. The first, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, was released in 2009. Krasinski also directed several episodes of The Office, the show that catapulted the star into widespread fame.

This news came on top of the announcement that the Krasinski-executive-produced pilot Dream Corp LLC was green-lit by Adult Swim. The series stars Napoleon Dynamite actor Jon Gries.
