Lionsgate, the studio that is known for producing The Hunger Games and Divergent, is now working on a feature film version of the popular Power Rangers characters.
The Associated Press reported that this reboot comes nearly two decades after the failure of the first Power Rangers movie to hit the big screen.
Lionsgate announced that they will be working with with Haim Saban's Saban Entertainment to move forward on production of a live-action feature film. Saban released a statement saying that they are thrilled to be working with Lionsgate and that the Power Ranges fit into the theme of films like Twilight and The Hunger Games.
It was also explained in the statement that this film would focus more on the mythology behind the Rangers. “With an extensive and extremely devoted worldwide fan base as well as a deep and detailed mythology, the Power Rangers are primed for the big screen” Lionsgate and Saban said in their combined statement, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Back in 1997 Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, was released and only made $8.1 million at the domestic box office. The Rangers have been featured on TV since 1993 in many different iterations.
