After some delays, FYF Festival organizer Sean Carlson announced this year’s lineup during today’s episode of Morning Becomes Eclectic on the Los Angeles NPR affiliate KCRW, and it is most definitely worth the wait.
The Strokes and Phoenix will headline this year’s festival, with other performances by Interpol, Haim, Flying Lotus, Grimes, Little Dragon, Real Estate, Darkside, and the recently reunited, seminal dream pop band Slowdive.
The Strokes’ festival-closing set on Sunday is their first announced US West Coast performance in three years.
Other notable acts include Death Grips, Tycho, Blood Orange, Four Tet, The XX’s Jamie XX, Built To Spill, and Slint. The festival will also feature two Strokes side projects by guitarist/keyboardist Albert Hammond Jr. and frontman Julian Casablancas with his band The Voidz.
Due to much-needed renovations to the festival’s usual location at Los Angeles State Historic Park, this year’s FYF Fest will take place at Exposition Park and the nearby Los Angeles Sports Arena. The Arena will be the festival’s first indoor stage, allowing many acts interesting new opportunities for atmosphere and theatrics.
Tickets will go on sale next Thursday, May 22nd on the band’s website. Tickets can also be purchased in-person at several independent record stores in Los Angeles, including Amoeba Music and Origami Vinyl. Full details can be found on the festival’s website and Facebook page.
