Michael Fassbender joins Derek Cianfrance's 'The Light Between Oceans'

By Will Ashton,

Academy award-nominated actor Michael Fassbender is about to be joining the cast of rising talent Derek Cianfrance's next movie The Light Between Oceans.

According to TheWrap, the film, which is an adaptation of the book of the same title by M.L. Stedman, is expected to have Fassbender play the role of a lighthouse keeper who, alongside his wife, decides to secretly raise a young infant found in a shipwreck.

As Fassbender is also confirmed to star in Prometheus 2 and Assassin's Creed, which he is also producing, the time period in which the actor is expected to star in this movie is unknown. He is expected to go into production on this after his commitments to those two films, though it is possible that he could get this out of the way before he has to fully commit himself to either of those projects.

Since September, Cianfrance has been attached to direct the adaptation. It is based on a book that has been translated into nearly 30 languages since it was first published back in July 2012.

Considering that Assassin's Creed is scheduled to be released on Aug. 7, 2015, it is expected that this will be Fassbender's first priority. Unless, of course, there is news set to come in the upcoming next few days of that film's delay.

is being produced by David Heyman (Gravity) through his Heyday Films company alongside Jeffrey Clifford.

Fassbender will next be seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past and Frank this summer. He also just recently wrapped filming an adaptation of Macbeth with Marion Cotillard.
