NBC News gets interview with NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden

By Daniel S Levine,

NBC News has just announced that it will be airing an exclusive interview with former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. This will be the first American television interview for Snowden, who leaked thousands of documents to the media, revealing secret National Security Agency surveillance programs.

NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams went to Moscow to speak with Snowden. The interview will air during an hour-long special on Wednesday, May 28 at 10 p.m.

Snowden and Williams spoke together for several hours and the meeting was not announced until today. Williams also spoke with Glenn Greenwald, the Guardian journalist who has remained in contact with Snowden and first published the documents.

The interview is timed just days after the publication of Greenwald’s book, No Place To Hide: Edward Snowden, The NSA, And The U.S. Surveillance State. The book was recently picked up by Sony and the producers of the James Bond films to adapt into a movie.

Snowden leaked the documents last year, causing a stir in the U.S. and around the world. The U.S. government is still trying to make changes to NSA policy with the House just passing a new bill today.
