Pixar fans still have about a year to wait until the studio’s new movie Inside Out hits theaters, but this morning Disney released a full plot synopsis of the project.
The film, directed by Monsters Inc. and Up director Pete Docter, will take place inside the mind of Riley, an 11-year-old girl. According to Pixar.com, the plot centers on the emotions that guide her life: Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith).
These emotions live in Headquarters, a place inside Riley’s mind where she is guided in her everyday decisions. When Riley and her family move from the Midwest to San Francisco, both Riley and her emotions struggle to cope with this new life.
This year marks the first year since 2005 without a Pixar movie in theaters, but the studio will be in making up for this in 2015. Next year, two films will be released, Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur.
Though no official trailer for Inside Out has been released, early footage screened at Cinemacon in March was well received by critics and fans, according to The Hollywood Reporter. After mixed critical responses to Pixar’s last three films - Cars 2, Brave and Monsters University - could this be their next masterpiece?
Inside Out will be released on June 19, 2015.
