Ray Romano has just joined a rock ‘n’ roll pilot in the works at HBO that is being produced by director Martin Scorsese and Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger.
The former Everybody Loves Raymond sitcom star will play Zak Yankovich, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The character is the right-hand man to Richie, the main character of the series. Richie is the head of promotion at the American Century record label with plenty of experience under his belt, including memories of working with the mob. It is set in New York.
While the project still hasn’t attracted a title, it certainly has attracted top-shelf talent. Blue Jasmine’s Bobby Cannavale will play Richie, while Olivia Wilde will play Richie’s wife. Juno Temple has also been cast in the series.
Scorsese and Jagger are executive producing with Breaking Bad’s George Mastras and The Wolf of Wall Street writer Terence Winter. Scorsese, Winter and Cannavale also worked on Boardwalk Empire. Scorsese has signed to direct the pilot and production should start this summer.
Romano was recently seen in TNT’s Men of a Certain Age and has a recurring role on NBC’s Parenthood.
