Ridley Scott's career took off when he worked on Alien in 1979, and now Scott will be headed back into space, but this time the famous director will be landing on Mars.
Hit Fix reported that Scott has been picked to direct the upcoming sci-fi film The Martian, which stars Matt Damon.
The movie will tell the story of a astronaut who is stranded on a Martian colony and NASA has to find a way to save the stranded astronaut. The movie's story-line will stick closely to the novel of the same name which was self-published by Andy Weir. The script for the film is being written by Drew Gobbard.
Science Fiction added that this will mark the 21st film from Scott as a director.
Scott is known for directing, Alien, Blade Runner and the recent film Prometheus.
No release date has yet to be announced for the film but the studio is looking towards a spring/summer release in 2016.
