Sean Penn’s ‘The Gunman’ gets release date

By Chelsea Lewis ,

Sean Penn's upcoming thriller The Gunman has received a Feb. 20, 2015 release date in the United States. Open Road will be distributing the film.

Variety reported that Studiocanal's Euro film/TV group has financed and sold the film internationally, which will be released Feb. 18 in France and released two days later in Australia/New Zealand.

The film was set to be released back in December of 2014 in France. The switch was supported to accommodate a closer release date to that of the U.S.

Pierre Morel is at the helm of this film. He is most popularly known for his work on Taken. Penn is the lead in the film and stars as a former special forces solider and military contractor who is going through PTSD. Through this journey he tries to reconnect with his long time love but first has to clear his name and goes on a cross country journey to do so.

Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Mark Rylance and Jasmine Trinca also star in the film, Deadline added.
