Top 10 Barbara Walters Interviews

This coming week marks the end of the road for legendary broadcast journalist Barbara Walters, who announced last year that she would be retiring in 2014. Walters last day on air is Friday, May 16 as a co-host of The View. In honor of Walters final week, all 11 co-hosts in The View's history will be in attendance on May 15 to say goodbye to her. Currently, in it's 17th season, The View is hosted by Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd. Past hosts include, Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Joy Behar, Debbie Matenopoulos, Lisa Ling, Elisabeth Hassalbeck and Rosie O’Donnell. Walters started her career back in 1961 at the Today Show, where she became the program's first female to co-host. Walters then moved over to ABC where she is best known for her interviews on 20/20 and for co-creating The View in 1997. Over the years, Walters has conducted tons of interviews with actors, actresses, politicians, musicians, athletes and many others. In 1997, Barbara Walters conducted an interview for 20/20 with the late Michael Jackson. In the interview Jackson talked about the tragic death of Princess Diana and how paparazzi plays a role in the lives of celebrities. Jackson was a legendary singer who was given the nickname "King of Pop". Jackson started his career off as a member of the Jackson 5 and then went on to find success as a solo artist with hit singles like "Thriller", "Billie Jean" and "Beat It". Jackson sadly passed away in 2009 at the age of 50.

Walters named Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour one of her most Fascinating People in 2006. In the interview Walters talks with Wintour about her life journey and how she fashion affect the world. Wintour has been the editor-in-chief of Vogue since 1988 and is considered to be an important figure in the world of fashion. Wintour's signature look includes her famous pageboy haircut and a pair of sunglasses. Wintour is known to have a demanding personality and Meryl Streep's character in the film The Devil Wears Prada is presumed to be based on Wintour.

8. Katherine Hepburn

In 1981, Walters interview the late actress Katherine Hepburn. During the interview Hepburn compared herself to a tree to which Walters replied "What kind of a tree?". Hepburn won an Oscar for her role in Morning Glory. She later won three more Oscars for her roles in the films Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, The Lion in Winter and On Golden Pond. Hepburn passed away in 2003 at the age of 96.

Walters interviewed champion boxer Mike Tyson and actress Robin Givens in 1988 for 20/20. At that time Tyson and Givens were married and during the interview Walters asked Givens if Tyson hits her and she admitted that she had become afraid of Tyson. Tyson and Givens were married for a year and then divorced. Tyson is a retired champion boxer who holds the record as the youngest boxer to win the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight championships. Given is an actress best known for starring on the television series Head of the Class.

In 1977, Walters sat down with the late actress Lucille Ball. In their interview the two talked about Ball's life in television after her hit show I Love Lucy. Aside from I Love Lucy, Ball starred in The Lucy–Desi Comedy Hour, The Lucy Show, Here's Lucy and Life with Lucy. Ball was married to Desi Arnaz Jr. with whom she had two children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr.. Ball is considered to be one of the most popular stars and was nominated for an Emmy Award thirteen times, and won four times. Ball passed away in 1989 at the age of 77.

Walters interviewed Oprah Winfrey in 2010 as part of a goodbye to Winfrey, who in 2011 ended her talk show The Oprah Winfrey Show. In the interview, Walters and Winfrey discussed Winfrey's life, her relationships with longtime boyfriend Stedman Graham and best friend Gayle King and why she never had any children. Winfrey hosted her syndicated talk show The Oprah Winfrey Show for 25 years before ending it in 2011. Streisand is not only a singer but a songwriter and actress as well. She has won two Academy Awards, eight Grammy Awards, five Emmy Awards. Streisand's career started back in 1960's where she started off as a singer. In 1968, she starred in the musical film Funny Girl, which won her an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Actress. In the United States Stresiand has sold 71.5 million albums.

Walters interviewed the late Elizabeth Taylor and in the interview Taylor talked about her life and career. Taylor is considered one of the greatest Hollywood stars. She starred in films like Father of the Bride, A Place in the Sun, Giant, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Suddenly. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1968 for the film BUtterfield 8. Taylor was also known for her numerous marraiges. She was married eight times and passed away in 2011 at the age of 79.

In 1999, Walters interviewed Monica Lewinsky, who is most famous for having a relationship with former President Bill Clinton. The interview was watched by 74 million people, which is the highest rating ever for a news program. Lewinsky worked as an intern in the White House from 1995 to 1996 and during that time she became involved with Clinton who was a married man. Due to the scandal Clinton was impeached in 1998, but was acquitted in 1999. Since, Lewinsky has become a household name and in 2014 wrote an essay for Vanity Fair where she noted that she regretted having an affair with Clinton.
