'Wheel of Fortune' host Pat Sajak calls people worried about climate change 'unpatriotic racists'

By Daniel S Levine,

Pat Sajak may be the beloved game show host of Wheel of Fortune, but he showed another side of his personality on Twitter. He lashed out at people who are concerned about climate change and global warming. Sajak seemed to relish the fact that he has angered some with his message.

On Tuesday, Sajak wrote, “I now believe global warming alarmists are unpatriotic racists knowingly misleading for their own ends. Good night.”

This afternoon, he showed how happy he was to stir the Internet pot, writing, “Taking next few weeks off. Computer models have already determined winners.” Later, he added, “Sometimes it's fun to poke a stick in a hornets' nest just to hear the buzzing.”

According to the Huffington Post, Sajak’s tweet on Tuesday drew several responses from people who disagreed with Sajak. One person wrote, “feels like you should thrown a bigot or vapid in there somewhere,” which earned a nasty response from Sajak, who complained about Twitter’s 140-character limit. “Only so much you can do within Twitter parameters,” he wrote.

Sajak has gone after global warming in the past. Back in February, he wrote, “Ok, I'll explain again: cold, snowy winters do not disprove global warming, but warm winters do prove it. Got it?”

While it’s not clear exactly what sparked Sajak’s most recent tweet, it comes just days after global warming returned to the headlines. Bill Nye the Science Guy famously went after a CNN host who questioned global warming.

TIME reports that a new study published in Geophysical Research Letters shows that Antarctica is losing 160 billion metric tons of ice each year, twice as much as previously surveyed. The University of California and NASA also warned last week that Antarctic glacier loss is now irreversible.
