A 9-year-old disabled child was found by neighbors stuffed in an icebox at a Houston apartment on Monday.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Child Protective Services have been investigating the case and said that the girl’s mother, Amber Keyes, told them that her daughter died in January. Keyes allegedly said that on the morning of Jan. 29, she discovered the little girl unresponsive and not breathing. She then claimed that she tried to revive the child, but stopped so she could take her other daughter to school.
The girl’s body was discovered earlier this week wrapped in a blanket, in a refrigerator, by Keyes’ neighbors, who immediately called 911 after the gruesome discovery.
Investigators said that little girl suffered from cerebral palsy.
ABC13 reported that an emergency custody hearing was held on Wednesday for the sibling of the deceased girl. A judge granted CPS custody of that child.
Authorities questioned and released Keyes and have not filed any charges against her at this time.
