The jury president for the upcoming Venice Film Festival will be French composer Alexandre Desplat, a six-time Oscar nominee and winner of a Golden Globe.
Desplat, 49, has been looked upon quite favorably by Hollywood. Desplat has composed over 70 scores for films and dozens of themes for the TV series. He won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for The Beat That My Heart Skipped and a Golden Globe for The Painted Veil.
More recent scores for Desplat include GirGodzilla, The King's Speech, Argo, and Philomena, according to the Associated Press. His first Hollywood score was for Girl With A Pearl Earring in 2003. Desplat has joined the long line of successful French composers in Hollywood, following in the footsteps of Georges Delerue, Michel Legrand, and Maurice Jarre, notes Rfimusique.
Desplat will lead the team of international filmmakers who will decide the award winners at the 71st edition of the Venice Film Festival. The festival often showcases unconventional, artistic films, and awards the Golden Lion for top film. The festival runs from Aug. 27 to Sept. 6.
