Andrew Rannells has been tapped to replace Neil Patrick Harris in the award-winning Broadway musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch in August.
Harris, fresh off winning the Tony award for best actor, has decided to finish out his time with the musical on Aug. 17, the Angry Inch's lead producer revealed, reports The New York Times. The show was set to continue its run thanks to strong ticket sales.
Rannells, who was nominated for a Tony for his performance as Elder Price in The Book of Mormon, will officially start on Aug. 20. He signed an eight-week contract, but could potentially continue after that.
Some theater producers noted they heard that the show might opt to have a revolving door for the lead role of transgender musician Hedwig, but nothing has been confirmed.
In addition to Harris' win, Angry Inch snagged four Tony Awards, including Best Revival on Sunday, according to Broadway World. The musical was Harris' first return to Broadway since starring in the 2004 Assassins. He has also appeared in Proof and Cabaret.
