DreamWorks Animation has enlisted the singing talents of Anna Kendrick for its animated film Trolls. The movie is going to be based on the big-haired toys that were popular for several decades.
Kendrick has been cast to provide the voice for Poppy, an upbeat princess, reports Deadline. She is the first star cast on the project, which the studio plans on releasing in 2016.
Variety reports that Mike Mitchell, who helmed DWA’s Shrek Forever After.
DWA has the worldwide film rights for the Trolls characters after signing a deal with Dam Things last year. The deal also covers television programs, so expect something for Netflix down the line. Trolls were created in 1959 by Danish fisherman Thomas Dam.
DWA’s most recent film is How To Train Your Dragon 2, which opened on Friday. The film grossed $49.4 million.
Trolls will open on Nov. 4, 2016.
