By Mila Whiteley,

A handwritten draft of musical legend Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone” sold at an auction for $2.045 million on June 24.

This manuscript of Bob Dylan’s hit song not only shows the famous lyrics, but also has the doodles and thoughts of the songwriter as he wrote, as previously reported.

Although the new owner of this piece of music history remains unidentified, they have set the record for largest amount spent on a popular artist’s musical manuscript. The previous record was, according to the Los Angeles Times, $1.2 million that someone paid for a manuscript of “A Day in the Life” by John Lennon in 2010.

Dylan’s manuscript was sold at an auction put on by Sotheby’s that was specifically music related, called A Rock & Roll History: Presley to Punk. The auction contained 146 items, ranging from posters signed by The Rolling Stones to a signed bail bond of Jim Morrison’s.

The manuscript of “Like a Rolling Stone” was auction item number 146, according to Sotheby’s Auction Results and Details.
