A 12-year-old Las Vegas boy was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head on Monday at a Boy Scout camp located in San Diego's Mission Bay on Fiesta Island.
The boy and the gun were found in his tent and Officer Matt Tortorella said that the camp called police believing the wound to be self-inflicted, The Associated Press reports.
Organization spokesman Deron Smith said that the Fiesta Island camp does not offer any firearm programs, which has left police wondering where exactly the game came from.
According to the Los Angeles Times, police have said they currently are treating the situation as a suicide.
The Boy Scouts of America released a statement saying, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and all those who experienced this tragedy. Our top priority is providing support to our community and for those in the grieving process."
Grief counselors were available for those at the camp, which was put into lockdown while police investigated and spoke with those at the camp.
