A woman in Oakland, California has been arrested for allegedly beating a 9-year-old child with a hammer.
According to CBS San Francisco, authorities said that Haseemah Diame allegedly attacked the third-grade girl with a hammer inside the Lafayette Elementary School bathroom.
“She was able to lure this other girl away from the play yard during recess into an adjacent bathroom there by the school. Once in the bathroom the adult proceeded to assault the girl with a hammer,” school spokesman Troy Flint said.
After the child went missing around 10:30 a.m., school officials searched for the girl and found her injured in the restroom and called police.
The student sustained several injuries, but is expected to recover.
Police did not release a motive as to why Diame allegedly chose to viciously attack the child, but FOX 13 noted that the victim and attacker’s family had been feuding.
Diame was arrested and is facing charges for assault with a deadly weapon.
