DreamWorks Animation launches DreamWorksTV YouTube channel

DreamWorks Animation has announced another effort to diversify itself by launching its own YouTube channel, called DreamWorksTV. The new venture is its first with AwesomenessTV, a content creator that DWA acquired last year.

The channel will be home to new content, plus shorts that will feature familiar DWA characters. Content is set to include family-friendly reality shows like Prank My Parents and Record Setter Kids, as well as new shows Gorillaville and Report Card. A series based on the iconic Richie Rich comic book character will be available exclusively on the channel.

AwesomenessTV founder Brian Robbins is overseeing the venture with a special DWA team.

“We're tapping into the invaluable knowledge that Brian has amassed from his success with AwesomenessTV to create a unique, short-form, laugh-out-loud mobile experience for families,” DWA CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said in a statement. “This is a huge opportunity for the DreamWorks brand.”

Katzenberg has made it well known that the future of the company is on the small screen or computer monitors, not in movie theaters. DWA already has a long-term deal with Netflix to create exclusive content there, including Dinotrux and the new season of DreamWorks Dragons.
