Pippa Middleton sat down for her first-ever television interview with Matt Lauer on the Today Show, where she talked about being thrust into the public eye after her sister Kate Middleton’s wedding to Prince William in 2011 as well as some of the charity work she’s been doing lately.
Middleton, 30, recently finished cycling through 12 states in the U.S. to raise awareness for the British Heart Foundation and the Michael Matthews Foundation. Although she’s able to use a bigger platform to promote the charities that mean the most to her, she admits that she’s been completely surprised by the fame.
“It sounds funny to say, but we saw it, as just a family wedding,” she said of the royal wedding, “And actually, I didn't realize, perhaps, the scale of it until afterwards. We all took on the the roles as any family would.”
“I think the plan was not really for it to be a significant dress. Really just to sort of blend in with the train,” she said. “I suppose it's flattering.”
Middleton also talked about feeling “publicly bullied” after the wedding, saying she’s surprised at the media taking everything with a “negative side.”
As for future plans, she plans to keep writing, as she’s now a columnist for Vanity Fair and a contributor for the British Waitrose Kitchen magazine. She counts health and fitness and party planning as endeavors she would like to carry on with as well.
