Ed Sheeran topped the UK’s Official Singles Chart this afternoon for the first time in his career with his newly-released single “Sing.”
“It’s fantastic!” Sheeran said, according to Official Charts. “It’s nice to finally have a Number 1 in my home country. Thank you to everyone who supported the single for making this happen.”
The single had 124,000 sales in the last seven days, reports NME. Sheeran has had 12 Top 40 releases and wrote One Direction’s number one single “Little Things” which also topped the charts.
“Sing” was co-written and produced by Pharrell Williams and will be on Sheeran’s sophomore album X which will be released June 23. It’s the second single released from the album, with the first being “One.” “One” reached number 18 on the Official Singles Chart last month within 48 hours of release.
The number two spot belongs to Sam Smith with “Stay With Me” and number three belongs to Secondcity’s “I Wanna Feel.” Mr Probz’s “Waves” is number four, and John Legend’s “All of Me” is number five.
