Actress Evan Rachel Wood has been hit with a $30 million lawsuit by producers hoping to make a sequel to 10 Things I Have About You, titled 10 Things I Have About Life. They claim that Wood left the production, but the actress’ rep has called the lawsuit “preposterous.”
The 10-page complaint was filed by 10 Things Film LLC in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, claiming a breach of a written agreement. According to Deadline, the company claims it “suffered significant and extensive damages and financial harm” that amounts to a total of $30 million, including $20 million of lost potential profits.
Wood had signed a deal back in November 2012 to star in the movie for $300,000 up front. Production had got off to a good start in January 2013, but after four weeks of shooting the film was shut down. No reason for that is given in the suit.
Production was supposed to start up again on Feb. 8, 2013, but Wood told a producer that “for personal reasons, she was unable and unwilling to continue with principal photography at present time, and would be unable to recommence principal photography until approximately November 2013.”
Needless to say, Wood didn’t return in fall 2013 and filming has never resumed. Intandem Films has also left the production.
In a statement to E! News and other sites, Wood’s rep called the claims “preposterous.” While her rep did agree that filming stopped in February, the rep said that this was because the producers ran out of money.
“Even after that, Evan agreed to resume production in Nov. 2013, by which time the producers said they would have cleared up their issues,” the statement continues. “However, the producers still could not get their act together, nor did they pay Evan money that was owed. Repeated subsequent promises by the producers to resume production and pay Evan also turned out to be false. Enough is enough. The producers, not Evan, have breached contract.”
Wood hasn’t exactly had the greatest summer. Just last week, she and husband Jamie Bell split up after two years of marriage. They have one child together, a son.
