Gavin O’Connor, the director of Warrior, will helm the film Massacre in the Himalayas.
The film will follow a group of mountain-climbers who are attacked by Pakistani terrorists while attempting to scale the K2 summit.
The story is based on real-life events and was covered in a feature by Freddie Wilkinson in the August 2013 issue of Men’s Journal. Ten climbers and a Pakistani cook were ultimately killed in the attack. Climber Zhang Jingchuan was the only survivor.
Gianni Nunnari of Hollywood Gang Productions will be co-producing the film with O’Connor, reported Variety, who first learned of the news. Nunnari previously produced 300, 300: Rise of an Empire and Immortals. A screenwriter has not yet been hired.
ComingSoon.net said that O’Connor most recently took over directing duties for Jane Got a Gun. The film’s previous director, Lynne Ramsay, notably left the film’s production. Jane Got a Gun stars Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor and Joel Edgerton and will be released on Feb. 20, 2015. Edgerton previously collaborated with O’Connor in Warrior.
