A four-year-old girl drowned after she got into a backyard pool at a party on Saturday while the guests sang "Happy Birthday" to another child.
According to the Associated Press, Columbus police said that the body of little Sinaia Moore was found at the bottom of the backyard swimming pool on Saturday evening.
The Columbus Dispatch noted that 75 to 100 people were singing the birthday song to a one-year-old when several adults noticed Moore in the pool. She was pulled from the water but attempts to revive her were unsuccessful and she was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
While some reports have suggested that the partygoers were distracted with the signing and not watching the child, Columbus police Sgt. Christ Holzhauser disagreed.
“I see nothing that indicates that anyone was inattentive, negligent in any manner,” he said. “It just seems like this is clearly a sad, unfortunate accident.”
Holzhauser also added that the four-year-old was wearing a float vest earlier in the day, but did not have it on when she was found in the pool.
