Guy Pearce, Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult gear up for new dystopian romance flick ‘Equals’

By Rachel Karach,

Guy Pearce is officially set to join Twilight actress Kristen Stewart and Warm Bodies actor Nicholas Hoult in Equals.

According to Deadline.com, Pearce was reportedly approached to become part of the cast at the Cannes film festival in May. Equals will be directed by Drake Doremus, who also directed the romantic drama Like Crazy in 2011.

Equals is set in a futuristic society in which emotions are eliminated to ensure peace on earth. But when the “equals” become infected with a disease that revives their emotions, they mysteriously disappear from the community. Hoult’s character succumbs to the disease and teams up with Stewart’s character to escape persecution.

The Wrap reports that filming will begin in Singapore and Japan this August. Mister Smith Entertainment is currently dealing with international licensing for the film and pushing for release in at least 35 different countries.

This will be the first substantial romantic role for Stewart since her role as Bella Swan in the wildly successful Twilight Saga films. Hoult is most famous for his role as Tony in the Skins television series, although he garnered plenty of attention for his romantic male lead role in the 2013 Warm Bodies film adaption. Pearce is currently promoting his newest film The Rover with his co-star Robert Pattinson.
