At least 27 people are dead and several more are trapped under rubble after two buildings collapsed in India Saturday.
According to CNN, officials said the first building, an apartment complex, collapsed Saturday morning in New Delhi.
"Ten people, including five children and three women, died," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma.
Hours later, another building in the city of Chennai, in Tamil Nadu came down and claimed the lives of at least 17 people.
The victims in the second collapse are thought to all be laborers who were working on the unfinished 11-story structure.
After the incidents people were pulled from the debris, but authorities said at this time many are still unaccounted for.
Australia's ABC News reported that sub-standard building practices may be to blame for the collapses. The news network noted that more than 100 people have been killed in incidents such as this over the past year in India.
Rescue efforts are continuing at this hour.
