Lupita Nyong'o compares red carpet season to a 'war zone' in Vogue

By Gina DiFalco,

Lupita Nyong’o is making her Vogue debut and dishing about the whirlwind award season she had, ending with an Academy Award for her role in 12 Years a Slave.

Nyong’o graces the July 2014 cover and talked about becoming a household name almost overnight.

"It just feels like the entertainment industry exploded into my life. People who seemed so distant all of a sudden were right in front of me and recognizing me -- before I recognized them!" she said, adding the first time she noticed paparazzi following her to the airport, it was the "beginning of the end of my anonymity."

She was on every red carpet this year, from the Golden Globes, to the SAG Awards to the Oscars, and she compared it to a “war zone.”

“My body had been holding on by a thread to get through this very intense experience,” she said of being on the red carpet. “Nothing can prepare you for awards season.”

Nyong’o added, "The red carpet feels like a war zone, except you cannot fly or fight; you just have to stand there and take it."

Entertainment Tonight reports that also in the July issue, Nyong’o confirmed she’s dating Somali rapper K’naan.
