Michael Schumacher leaves hospital

Formula 1 racing legend Michael Schumacher has been released from a hospital in France after being in a coma for almost six months following a skiing accident.

He will now be moved to the University hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland to continue his lengthy recovery, CNN reports.

Schumacher hit his head on a rock while skiing at the French resort Meribel in late December. An investigative team his family hired, thought that he hit a rock under the snow, which made him lose his balance and crash into another rock.

Sabine Kehm, Schumacher’s agent, asked for privacy for Schumacher’s family during this part of the recovery.

“The family also wished to thank all the people who have sent Michael all the many good wishes,” Kehm said. “We are sure it helped him. For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye.

There has been almost no information on Schumacher’s condition since early April, when Kehm said Schumacher “shows moments of consciousness and awakening,” the AP reports.

Schumacher won seven F1 circuit championships from 1994 to 2004. He retired from racing in 2012.
