One person is missing after a house exploded outside of Denver on Thursday afternoon.

According to CBS 4, the explosion which completely destroyed a house in Thornton, happened shortly after 3 p.m. local time and at least one person remains unaccounted for.

The explosion leveled the home and sent shards of wood, glass and insulation onto nearby lawns and cars.

KUSA reported that crews had the fire contained within minutes and immediately began searching through the debris for the missing.

Officials said that not much of the house is left standing and the homes neighboring where the blast occurred also sustained some damage.

There are no reports of any injuries at this time and it is unclear how many people were in the home at the time of the explosion.

Authorities are continuing to investigate what may have caused the fire.
