Pop Star and fashion icon Rihanna turned heads as she received the Fashion Icon Award, as recognized by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, on Monday.
The “The Monster” singer stole the show in a completely sheer Adam Selman gown that left nothing to the imagination. According to Hollywood Life the CFDA Fashion Awards were held at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City, where RiRi pushed the fashion envelope as far as she could.
Slinky and sleeveless, the gown fit Rihanna’s figure like a glove, showing off her tattooed body. Not to mention, the dress was backless. To add even more drama to her ensemble, the 26-year-old singer added over-the-elbow gloves and a fur stole that was strategically placed to cover her up, as slight as it was. An embellished headpiece covered her hair and matched the Adam Selman gown.
According to the CFDA, “The record-breaking recording artist, actress, and fashion designer will be recognized for her contributions to the fashion industry as well as her philanthropic partnership with the MAC AIDS Fund’s Viva Glam campaign."
The CFDA continued, “The Fashion Icon Award is given to an individual whose style has made a significant impact on popular culture on an international stage.”
Past winners of the Fashion Icon Award include household names such as, Lady Gaga, Iman, Kate Moss, and Nicole Kidman.
Fashion designer Alexander Wang is particularly impressed with Rihanna’s fashion influence and fearlessness.
“She brings so much ease and confidence to everything she does, and I love when she dresses down," Wang said. "It takes a lot of confidence for someone in her position to do that and step out in front of the public eye.”
Dressing down or dress in sheer, either choice Rihanna makes she definitely has spunk for what she can pull off.
“Her influence inspires and penetrates everyone around her and beyond,” Wang said. “Everyone. Period.”
Rihanna was surprised about the buzz over her dress, stated Women’s Wear Daily.
“Oh really?” she said. “That makes me so nervous.”
