Showtime has ordered a second season for the horror drama Penny Dreadful, which is four episodes into its first season.
The show was created by Skyfall writer John Logan and has begun to amass strong ratings. Deadline reported that Penny Dreadful has become the most-watched new show in the history of Showtime On Demand and Showtime Anytime. Showtime president David Nevins attributed this to the show’s appeal to younger demographics.
Penny Dreadful is a period piece set in 19th century London. Iconic horror characters like Dorian Gray and Dr. Frankenstein mix with original characters in the supernatural thriller. Timothy Dalton, Josh Hartnett and Eva Green star.
Variety reported that the second season will have 10 episodes as opposed to the first season’s eight. Logan wrote every episode for the first season and reportedly intends to do the same for the second season. He will also be writing the next two James Bond films.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the show will shoot in Dublin and season 2 will likely premiere next year.
