Authorities said that a woman in Springtown, Texas was arrested for allegedly shooting her caged nursing dog because she became “agitated” with the canine.
The Parker County Sheriff’s Office reported that investigators said tips from the public led them to arrest Tammy Green Douglas.
Douglas is accused of fatally shooting the shepherd-mix mother and then leaving her and her newborn puppies on the side of a road.
Sheriff Larry Fowler said that after the public saw the story on a news telecast, they distributed it through social media. Police followed up on several tips from citizens who said they recognized the deceased dog and her pups that were abandoned in the cage.
The 44-year-old was arrested early Sunday and released after posting a $3,000 bond.
The Associated Press noted that she was charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals.
A school bus driver spotted the cage with the 10 blood-soaked puppies on Thursday and they are now being cared for at a rescue ranch.
