An Arkansas woman named Gertrude Weaver has celebrated her 116th birthday and is now known as the oldest person living in America.
According to the Associated Press, Weaver lives at the Silver Oaks Health and Rehabilitation and she was given a party for her special day, as well as cake. The Gerontology Research Group gave her the title of oldest person living in America. Plus, she takes second as the oldest person in the entire world.
In talking about her longevity, Weaver likened it to “trusting in the Lord, hard work and loving everybody.”
The world’s oldest person is 116-year-old Misao Okawa, who lives in Japan.
According to The Inquisitr, Weaver was married in 1915 and had four children, one of whom is still living at age 93.
An earlier report had listed the oldest living American as being Jeralean Yalley at 115, but now Weaver has taken her place. She lives in her Rehabilitation home in Camden, which is further southwest from Little Rock, Arkansas.
While no birth record exists for Weaver, she has always celebrated her birthday on July 4.
Her health has reportedly begun to decline, but she is able to get around her home and have fun.
