Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood are going out west for the pilot of J.J. Abrams’ latest television venture, Westworld.
Based off of Michael Crichton’s 1973 film, The Hollywood Reporter said that the HBO series is being pitched as a grim look on the future of artificial intelligence and the future of sin. In the original film, robots in a futuristic amusement park went haywire and began to wreak havoc.
According to Deadline, Hopkins will play Dr. Robert Ford, the visionary behind the eponymous Westworld theme park. Wood will play prototypical farm girl Dolores Abernathy who learns that her life is an elaborate fabrication concocted by Ford. James Marsden is reportedly also being considered for a role.
Entertainment Weekly noted that if Westworld is picked up, it will be Hopkins’ first regular television role. Wood is no stranger to the game though, having worked on HBO's True Blood and the miniseries Mildred Pierce.
J.J. Abrams is executive producing the show along with Bryan Burk, Jerry Weintraub, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. The latter two wrote the script for the pilot.
