Billboard has created charts that rank the best songs and albums of the week and year. These charts help measure an artist's success, and milestones attached to an artist help solidify their status in the industry. Now, Billboard is ranking the top artists of the week.
On Tuesday, Billboard unleashed a brand new chart that will rank the artists themselves based off their performance across Billboard’s most prominent charts such as Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200.
Trey Songz tops the first ever tally for the chart due to his new album Trigga debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with first week sales of over 100,000. His single “Na Na” is also performing well on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching a new peak of 21.
“Now, for the first time, Billboard will chart an artist's collective reach, utilizing data that informs such influential charts as the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200 and Social 50, among others," John Amato, Billboard co-president, said in a statement. "The Artist 100 chart is revolutionizing how artists are ranked in a way that is very relevant to music fans and pop culture enthusiasts."
