Officials in New Jersey saved a black bear cub after its head got caught in a cookie jar.
According to NorthJersey.com, on Friday, the six-month-old cub got its head stuck in an animal cracker jar that had been discarded in someone’s trash.
"He was trying to eat what remained in the jar and pulled the jar over his head," said Larry Ragonese, spokesman for the state Department of Environmental Protection.
The Associated Press noted that the poor bear then got spooked and climbed up a tree, but became wedged 40 feet up.
Fire and DEP officials arrived on the scene to rescue the distressed 28-pound cub.
The animal was tranquilized and firefighters worked to cut the plastic container off its head. The bear was then doused in cool water to battle the heat exhaustion and dehydration it suffered from being up in the tree for hours.
After its ordeal, the cub was taken to a rehabilitation center for monitoring. It will remain there for the next four to six weeks before being released back into the wild.
